What energizes you as you consider the future of the arts in Wisconsin?

From my early days as a child actor in community theater, I have always loved the performing arts. Throughout my career, I have seen the positive impacts the arts have on both children and adults. Something happens to a person when they perform on stage and then receive positive reinforcement through the audience’s applause. It’s wonderful to see. Its roots go back farther than recorded history. It is part of the bedrock that society is built upon, the act of entertaining each other and showing appreciation for the effort. We share what’s best in all of us when we go to the theater and experience a story unfolding on the stage. Whether we are on stage or in the audience, the connection that starts when the curtain rises remains with us long after the last curtain call. I can’t imagine a future, here in Wisconsin or anywhere else, that does not include this foundational societal interaction.
