Visual Artist

Green Goodies (GG) is a rising portrait artist and content creator based in Madison, WI.

While struggling to find relief in 2021 from a new diagnosis of Bipolar I Disorder, GG turned to painting. Using art as therapy she spent countless hours teaching herself to draw, paint, film, edit, and produce high-quality pieces. To document her progress with portraiture, GG set out to paint one-thousand individual portraits, entitled, “The Garden of 1000 Faces.” The project aims to create a culture of consent and inspire people to cherish themselves and each other wholeheartedly.

What energizes you as you consider the future of the arts in Wisconsin?

Wisconsin artists are what energize me when thinking about the future. In these first two years of creating, marketing, and selling my art I have encountered some of the most sincere and supportive humans in the form of Wisconsin artists. I had the pleasure of attending the Dane Arts Business Leadership Conference this year where I learned from their director, Mark Fraire, that Wisconsin ranks 50th in arts funding in the United States. This tells us that Wisconsin has so much room for growth in the arts.

While many artists flee Wisconsin in search of jobs and opportunities elsewhere, the artists who remain work together to support one another and keep the entire art scene going. They don’t gate keep with one another and most artists I’ve come across are genuinely interested in connecting with other artists. I believe in the future of the arts in Wisconsin because I believe in the creators of the art and I believe in the hearts and minds of art lovers to keep our artists well fed.
