Abigail Sharp

Abigail Sharp is an interdisciplinary artist living in Madison, Wisconsin. They enjoy creating intensely worked-over surfaces, using the sometimes obsessive relationships between people, materials, and images as a visual touchpoint for explorations of queerness.

What energizes you as you consider the future of the arts in Wisconsin?

I’m energized by the work that Wisconsin artists, especially young people, are doing outside of institutions to create art. Activist movements like the encampments for Palestine are inherently tied to artmaking, and the collective dialogue of teaching, learning, and making both expands and deepens connections in our community. This inspires me and gives me a lot of hope for a future of Wisconsin arts that is centered around collective betterment through creativity outside of conventional channels.
